For a lot of first-time buyers today, family support is part of how a home becomes possible. We're built around that, helping you turn whatever your family can offer into the most home you can comfortably afford. Owning a home is getting harder for this generation, and we're working to make that path wider.
Why we exist
Years ago, buying his own first home, his parents wanted to help with the down payment, and they did. But they could have done more. The only way to help was a gift, given for good. His parents are retired, their savings have to last, and Matt has siblings, so they helped, but capped it at what they could afford to give away forever.
Later he was on the other side. Family of his was buying a home, and Matt wanted to help, but again the only way was to give the money away for good.
Wanting to help with no good way to do it turned out to be just as frustrating as needing help and watching it get capped.
It wasn't just his family. Everywhere he and Steve looked, families were helping less than they wanted to, because a gift was the only tool. So they built another way.

Steve founded Flyhomes, a national real estate and mortgage company that, during his tenure, funded over $2 billion in home loans and helped around 3,000 families buy homes. He's spent his career building ways for ordinary buyers to win in markets stacked against them. FamilyBacked is the next one.
Matt Hasten, Chief Product Officer.
Matt founded Motto Health and built consumer financial products at Amazon, making complicated things simple. Before any of it, he was a Flyhomes customer, living the buyer's side of exactly this problem.
Steve and Matt met earning a JD and MBA at Northwestern. One has spent his career getting buyers into homes. The other lived the problem FamilyBacked solves. They built it because the help families need still had nowhere to go in the system.
What we believe
Family can help you buy it. That doesn't make it any less yours, and it doesn't mean asking permission to live your life. You're the one who decides.
A gift isn't the only way to support someone you love. Families should be able to help and still be made whole down the road.
